Drake 法学院 has been dedicated to 多样性 and 包容 since its inception more than 150 years ago.

Our founder and Iowa Supreme Court Justice Chester Cole wrote the opinion in 克拉克v. 马斯卡廷教育委员会 in 1868 that held racial segregation of public schools in Iowa as unconstitutional - 90 years before the US Supreme Court issued the same ruling for the entire country.

Drake 法学院 counted persons of color among its graduates as early as 1868. In 1925, in response to the then segregated 美国律师协会, Drake Law alumnus Charles Preston Howard co-founded the National Bar Association, which is now the largest national association of predominantly African American lawyers and judges. The 法律图书馆 at Drake is the proud home of the National Bar Association archives.

The city earns high scores on the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index.

得梅因 hosts cultural events such as I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa (a Black culture celebration), CelebrAsian, 以及拉丁裔传统节日.

Drake Law's 多样性 Committee sponsors events to facilitate learning, 多样性, 包容, 和理解. Events have included a diverse student reception during orientation and the 多样性 Career Forum, a networking event for students and local attorneys to discuss the importance of a diverse legal profession. 

在以前的夏天, Drake 法学院 hosted the Council on Legal Education Opportunity Scholars (继续教育O) Pre-Law Summer Institute, which helps diverse and economically disadvantaged students prepare for law school.

Drake 法学院 also partners with the 法学院 Admission Council's DiscoverLaw.org to host semi-annual pipeline events for racially and ethnically diverse high school students interested in the legal profession.

Each year, Drake 法学院's 学生组织 host 多样性、股票 and 包容 Week. Past events include Gender and Sexuality Awareness Day, a roundtable on immigration and refugees, a panel featuring local diverse judges, and celebration of the Muslim experience in Iowa.

Drake 法学院 has more than 25 active 学生组织, including numerous organizations dedicated to providing support and leadership opportunities for diverse students. 这些学生组织包括:
